Happy new year!

Yesterday, we had our first bargaining session of the year. We gave the administration 6 proposals, and we received only 4 counter-proposals. We are much closer to agreement on a couple, but there is much work to be done on several others. Notably, the administration has failed to provide a counter-proposal on non-discrimination and harassment protections responsive to the multiple examples provided by our members who courageously told their stories. It’s been close to two months since we’ve received a response to our proposal.

We are excited about the progress we’ve made, and student worker testimonials have helped tremendously in pushing the administration to understand the realities of students at Harvard. From harassment to workload, the administration is frequently surprised to learn about what happens at the university they administer.

If you think you can help us win a stronger contract by sharing your story, please reach out to us at hgsu.general@gmail.com.

In the current political climate, we do not want to rely on the provisions from the DeVos Department of Education; we need protections, we need a contract. It’s going to take the administration meeting with us consistently and regularly to achieve our goals, but we are prepared to step up if the administration will give us more time. Sign our petition here to demand more frequent and longer sessions so that we can work towards a #ContractNow.
